To the residents of Lawrence Park,
Lawrence Park’s leaf pick up begins November 4th and runs through November 29th.
We notice that residents are still raking and blowing leaves into the streets. This creates numerous problems and is a violation of Ordinance 668.01(a).
- Safety hazard: Blowing leaves into the street creates a hazardous situation for cars, motorcycles, cyclists, walkers, and runners as wet leaves can cause slippery conditions
- Storm drain blockage: Leaves can clog the storm drains, which can cause flooding and property damage.
- Water quality: Decayed leaves in storm drains can contribute to algae blooms.
WHAT TO DO WITH YOUR LEAVES:
1- Bag them and place them near the curb. Township employees will pick them up and take them to Harborcreek’s leaf drop-off site. The leaves MUST be in clear plastic bags. They will not be picked up in dark bags as we cannot see what is in the bags.
2- Rake them to the curb (as shown below) and the leaf machine will collect them and take to the drop-off site.
3- You can take the leaves directly to the leaf drop-off site in Harborcreek. If you choose to do this, when you get there you must cut the bags open, dump the leaves in the appropriate place, and take the empty bags home with you. Do not leave the bags there.
Debris other than leaves such as twigs, branches, acorns, etc. can be placed in receptacles and put to the curb on trash day. Pro Waste will take them. DO NOT put leaves in these containers; Pro Waste will not take leaves because they are not permitted to dump them in the landfill.
If you have questions about leaf pick-up, don’t hesitate to contact the Township by calling 814-899-2305. If you call after hours, you will hear a recording that gives you several options in which to leave your message.
Reminder: Townhall meetings held the 2nd Wednesday of every month. The next one is Wednesday November 13th at 6:00pm.
Thank you and we hope to see and hear from you!
